School of Architecture + Art Inducts Accomplished Alumni and Supporters to New “Wall of Fame”

By Danny Sagan, Associate Professor, Program Director, School of Architecture + Art

As visitors enter historic Chaplin Hall, lining the left side of the main staircase are clear acrylic and wooden plaques attached to steel frames. Inaugurated this fall during Homecoming Weekend, these plaques recognize and commemorate the achievements and service of alumni and supporters of Norwich University’s School of Architecture + Art and collectively comprise “The Wall of Fame.”

Inductees may be alumni, faculty, or friends of the school who have provided exceptional support in the form of commitment of time; sharing of talent; support to students and faculty; and financial contributions. Further recognition will also be given to those who have demonstrated a commitment to life-long learning and have excelled in civilian or military careers reflecting favorably on both the individual and the school. (If you would like to nominate someone to the Wall of Fame, please contact administrative assistant Holly Yacawych by phone (802-485-2620) or e-mail (hyacawyc@norwich.edu ) to request a nomination form. Designed and fabricated by architecture students under the guidance of Professors Danny Sagan and Angelo Arnold, the School of Architecture + Art  hopes the Wall of Fame will serve as an inspiration to our students who are at the very beginning of their professional journey.

This year, the inductees are alumni from the class years of 1996, 2001, 2007, and 2012. These alumni are recognized by their achievements as well as attainment of the professional goal of becoming a licensed architect. An architect achieves licensure only after completing the professional degree (which they receive at Norwich), a 36-month internship, and the completion of a multi-part test totaling over 20 hours. Architects and members of the A+A community consider this an accomplishment worth celebrating

Also this year, the School of Architecture + Art commemorated two Norwich alums who served as members of our Board of Fellows and are champion supporters of the School: Harry Blackey, ‘68, board president for many years, and John Mulligan, PE ’72. As a licensed professional engineer, Mulligan was instrumental to the vision and execution of the Wall of Fame project. His persistence, critical acumen, and consistent support moved an idea into a reality of which we are all very proud.

With great pleasure, the first inductees of the School of Architecture + Art to the Wall of Fame are:
