On Wednesday, November 19, members of the Delta Mu Delta, the School of Business & Management honor society coordinated a campus-wide canned food drive at the Wise Campus Center to help the Northfield Community Emergency Relief Volunteers (CERV) Food Shelter.
Staffing donation tables from 9 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., Delta Mu Delta members collected non-perishable food items from students, faculty and staff and issued raffle tickets based on the number of items donated.
Prizes for the raffle included NU Bookstore gift certificates worth $75, $50 and $25. But the prize that caught everyone’s attention was the offer of President Schneider’s parking spot for the week after Thanksgiving Break!
The final tally exceeded the goal of 250 canned goods—a total of 370 items were collected in one day. This was in no small part from contributions by Cadet Company 14-6, which alone collected and contributed 305 cans.
“The turnout was fantastic!,” Delta Mu Delta President Nicholas Roop said after the event. “We have set the bar for next year and hope to collect even more then. Due to the members of Delta Mu Delta’s hard work and the support of fellow students, faculty and staff, we were able to do something great for the community.”
Members of Delta Mu Delta prepared for the event over a month in advance, leveraging skills learned through their core coursework and marketing the event via the Commuter Newsletter, The Guidon, Facebook and the Norwich website.
