T: 415-497-7337

Tolya Stonorov received a masters of architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, where she was awarded the Chester Miller traveling fellowship, the Howard Friedman Thesis prize and multiple grants. In 2006, after working with an award winning architecture firm in the Bay Area as a project designer/manager, she started Stonorov Workshop with Otto Stonorov. Stonorov Workshop is a design and building collaborative founded on the belief that good design makes life better. With this as its goal Stonorov Workshop strives to use sustainable materials and methods in honest and simple expressions to create spaces whose existence outlasts their original use. Fundamental to the work is the belief that making and designing are intrinsic to each other: knowledge of one strengthens and informs the expression of the other. Stonorov Workshop builds many of their own designs and incorporates this experience into all of their work. Stonorov Workshop’s designs are developed with careful consideration of the client’s needs, a rigorous study of site and an open and involved creative process tempered by ecological sensibility.
